First (Real) Day of Summer

I did say I would post every day ...

Today was my first real day of relaxing in summer, now that grad parties and birthday parties are over and done with.

I woke up at 9:30 a.m.

I wrote my book for three hours and officially declared myself bored.  Luckily, a friend called asking me to take her home from work around four and I've been occupied ever since.  Spontaneous sleepovers for the win!

She got me hooked on a new show, called Bomb Girls.  Girls and WWII and bombs and LOTS of drama.  Watched two episodes and already reduced to tears.

Anywho ...

My Remicade treatment is tomorrow, which is a very happy thought.  Remicade = Benodryl = 4 Hour Nap.  Yes, please.  And the coffee afterward to get me going again is just the icing on the chemical cake.

To-Do List:

  • Sign physician's papers
  • Get mom to sign for Parent PLUS loan
  • Line up a job for July
    • Applying for some cake shops and pastry places.  Cake decorating fun!
  • Pack for Europe

Burning the Midnight Oil

I realize I haven’t posted anything since the beginning of the month, and I’m very, very sorry.  I’ve made a promise to myself that I won’t become one of those annoying bloggers who posts two things and then disappear off the face of the earth.

That being said ...

Much has happened in the month of May.  Here’s a list:
  • I finally turned in my housing and administration forms for college, but have yet to turn in my tuition deposit and my physician’s form.  Gotta make a doctor’s appointment …
  • Loans are turning out to be more difficult then we thought.
  • I went to One-Acts and Senior Honors Night (3.5 honors cord & National Honors Society stole).
  • I attended a gradumacation.
  • I gradumacated.
  • I went to 6+ gradumacation parties.
  • I had my gradumacation party.  $638.14 payoff!
  • My brother had his birthday (May 21st)
  • My brother had his birthday party (right now).

There you have it!  Oh, man, I loved high school, and it still hasn’t hit me that it’s over.  I feel like it’s just another summer and I’ll be back at school in August.

Except I won’t!

Although, thanks to my college of choice's awesomely late class start date (Oct. 20th) I will still be around for my high school’s homecoming dance, which I will most definitely be attending.  Yeah.  I'm that person.

Anyway, on June 10th, I will be leaving Nebraska for Europe!  My Mom is taking me on an awesome three week cruise (that we definitely can’t afford) for my graduation present, and I’m very excited, but also very nervous.  Who wouldn’t be worried about spending three weeks with their Mom?  Scary things could happen …

I’ll live.  I hope.

We’ll get on the plane, which will stop in Iceland, because apparently it’s cheaper to stay on the plane for longer than to just fly directly to your destination.  Also, it’s the place my Mom wants to visit the most.  Then, we’ll stop in New York for a twenty-four hour layover.  I’ll be able to sleep for a while (after some very long plane rides) and then we’ll tour the college campus at 3:00 p.m.  I can finally see what I’m getting myself into!

Then, we go to Germany for one hour, and finally to London, where we’ll go on a Harry Potter Tour (after a sleepless night on the plane …) AND see a castle (number one on my list of things to do) before boarding our cruise ship.  Royal Caribbean for the win!

I have a feeling we’ll be sleeping for the first day.

Then, there are a number of countries that I don’t really remember, considering it’s after midnight and I’m only up because I’m keeping an eye on the one girl sitting in a room full of teenage boys.  France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Rock of Gibralter … Europe in general.

The end.  Thanks for listening to my ranting and rambling.  I think I'll pass out from exhaustion now.

I am making a pact to post every single day from here on out, partly to make it a habit for when I actually get to New York, which I know is the real reason you all are here.

I get it, no one cares what happens before New York.

Anyway …

To-Do List:

  • Sign physician’s papers
  • Get mom to sign for Parent PLUS loan
  • Line a job up for July
  • Pack for Europe

Love always,
Little Me

Loans, Loans, and Loans ...

Today, I began the enrollment process for college.  I signed some papers and did some worrying, but mostly, I applied for student loans.  This took a couple of hours at StudentLoans.gov, where I completed my Master Promissory Note and “Entrance Counseling,” which was basically a very detailed Personal Finance lesson.  Still, I learned quite a few helpful tidbits.

Unsubsidized loans, subsidized loans, PLUS loans, it was all jumbled together before, but everything makes sense now!

-          Unsubsidized loan = interest accumulates immediately after the first disbursement.
-          Subsidized loan = interest does not begin accumulating until your first loan payment.
-          Parent PLUS loan = interest does not begin accumulating until your first loan payment.
-          Loan payments will not begin until six months after graduating or until dropping below half-time status as a college student.

I’m feeling a little better now about this huge commitment.  If I’m forced to take a semester off from classes (hospitalization, financial issues, etc.) I can return within six months without worrying about paying my loans off before I graduate.  Also, if I decide musical theater is not for me after all (not in a million years), I can attend a different college or university without having to worry about paying off loans and taking classes simultaneously.

Now this crucial piece of the puzzle has been finished, on to the next ones!
-          Housing registration survey
-          Personal Bio (whatever that means – It’s gonna take me a while to perfect this one.)
-          Health Certificate

Until next time,
Little Me

Dear Reader,

Hi! Welcome to Little Me in NYC, a multipurpose lifestyle blog focusing on the transition into life in New York City as a young adult.

Here, I'll cover topics about college life, Crohn's Disease, and a general survival guide all within the bustling scene of New York City.

Some facts about me:
  • I am from Nebraska.
    • Yes, the land of the corn.  My high school of over 2,200 kids was surrounded on all four sides by it.  That's the midwest for you.
  • When I graduated from high school, I moved to New York City to pursue higher education.
    • I'm a musical theater major (because everyone in NYC is an artist.)
  • I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, an inflammatory bowel disease that affects over 700,000 Americans, on the week of my tenth birthday.
  • I've always been a very busy person
    • I've been a competetive figure skater for 13 years
    • I was heavily involved in drama club (show choir, plays, musicals, one-acts, etc.)
    • I play the flute and the violin.
    • I was in national honors society
    • I was in a special culinary academy in high school
    • I was an overly over achiever in everything I did
  • I'm a dreamer
    • I did move to NYC to pursue musical theater and Broadway as a career, after all.
There’s much, much more, but I won’t bore you with the details now. You’ll find out in due time if you follow my blog (you can even subscribe by e-mail over on the right side there.  You know you want to.)

My ultimate goal is to update every single day (we all know that's not going to happen) or at the very least, every other day (slightly more likely.)

Until next time!  Let me leave you now with a factoid about Crohn's, because why not?

“Crohn’s is more common in developed countries rather than undeveloped countries, in urban rather than rural areas, and in northern rather than southern climates.”

That would be New York in a nutshell! Perhaps I’ll be around more of my own kind …

Love,
Little Me
